I Joined the Book of the Month Club

Every year, when resolution time comes, I’m always tempted to add ‘Read more books for pleasure’ as a one of my goals, but every year without fail I know that I wouldn’t get around to  doing it. There are so many factors why I feel very unmotivated when it comes to picking up a book and reading. One of them is when I convince myself to do other things instead, such as watching Netflix or Hulu. Other times, I feel overwhelmed by other things that I have to read for school.

I used to enjoy picking up a book and getting lost in the story that’s being told. Imaging and creating the visuals in your head is a ton of fun. I’d like to get back to the habit of reading a book to relax instead of scrolling down an endless timeline of social media. It’d be nice for a change.

So in my effort to fulfill that this year, I have joined Goodread’s 2017 Reading Challenge. In case you haven’t noticed, I love listing out goals, because it can be such a great motivator to actually get something done. When I have a listed goal unchecked, I just have this nagging feeling that it’s just hanging over my head until I actually push myself to do it. It is very satisfying when I eventually get to cross it off my list.

Another fun way to get myself to read more is joining Book of the Month Subscription! I actually found it on Instagram and I loved the concept behind it! If you’d like to know more about it, keep reading!

How does Book of the Month work?

You become a member and every month, a panel of judges picks about 5 books for the members to choose from. You can pick starting the 1st of each month. You can add up to 2 other books (from their archive) for $9.99 each item.

I chose this book because the review compared it to Mindy Kaling’s book which I’ve read and enjoyed. I’m now more excited than ever to read and receive books to meet my reading goal! Hey whatever helps motivate right?

  1. I think that joining a book club is a great idea or creating a book of the month. We used to do something similar at school and it was a lot of fun! I like this idea of a sub box x

  2. This book “subscribtion box” looks pretty nice, I love the panel of judges who choose the books, some of them are really great personalities whose opinions matter.

  3. What a wonderful idea. As crazy as it sounds I’m going to tell my bookclub about it. What’s interesting? Nearly all of us listen to the book. We’re all busy .. but can find snippets of time while driving the kids to and from practice .. or out for our afternoon walks. There are a couple though who are die hard book-in-hand people. Whatever it takes to get us reading .. the better we are

  4. It sounds like a great way to get new books to read each month! I like that there are recommendations and we won’t have to go through the pressure of picking out books to get.

  5. Oh this sounds like a great subscription box! I have too many books on my shelf to read so this would just pile up – but great if you have more time for reading 🙂

  6. I love this! I am an avid reader and have been dying to try and find a book club, but have been a bit shy, but something like this would be perfect for me.
